The traditional horizontal collector will cover, depending of the climatic conditions an area of 100 up to 150% of the floor surface area. The heat collection loops are buried 60 - 100cm below the ground. This kind of horizontal collectors is the most widely used in France and is also the simplest. There are 2 alternative collector systems if the external surface area of the ground around your house is too small or is steeply sloping. In these cases, energy can be collected deep in the earth or from ground water.
